This is a fine and rare Ming dynasty white jade bixie. Bixie are carvings of mythical beasts which were used as tomb guards in ancient China. This bixie was finely carved and looks attractive and amiable. The fine craftsmanship and quality show that it was probably made for an aristocratic tomb. It had been buried underground so its surface is calcified and one of its legs is slightly cracked. It has a fitted hard wood stand which was probably added later by a scholar so that it can be placed on ...click for details

This is a fine and interesting Japanese contemporary studio ceramic dish. It has a naturalistically potted shape and a crytallised glaze with patterns that remind you of nature. In my opinion, the patterns look like the seashore and shells. The three natural stone boulder feet and the signature in the shape of a footprint on the back make it look even more naturalistic. Dating: 20th century; Diameter: 9.75 inches; height: 1.6 inches; Condition: pristine; Provenance: sold at Christie's London ...click for details
