HUGE MID-QING DYNASTY ZITAN MOUNTED DREAMSTONE SCREEN
A very rare and fine large Qing dynasty, Qianlong (AD1725 - AD1796) or Jiaqing period (AD1796 - AD1825) zitan mounted dreamstone floor screen. Like many other precious cultural relics, this screen survived the Cultural Revolution by being completely covered in red paint. When I got it, most of the red paint was removed but there was a little remaining paint which I had to remove. The white marble dreamstone has intriguing natural patterns that look like mountains covered in haze. It was inscribed 'Qishi tuyunyan.', 'An extraordinary stone puffs out clouds and mist.' and dated year Guiwei, corresponding to AD1763 or AD1823 but more likely AD1763. The mount, made of solid zitan was superbly carved in the court style. It most probably belonged to a very high-ranking official during the Qing dynasty. A very collectable and rare item since zitan prices are soaring quickly recently. Date: AD1763 or AD1823 but more likely AD1763; Height: 26 inches; Condition: minor wear at extremities, all parts were assembled together with glue, except the screen and the stand which can be detached from each other.
