| An extremely rare early Choson period, early 15th century sanggam inlaid punchong vase. It shows influence from fine Chinese Yuan dynasty porcelains. If you examine its shape, you will find that it is a combination of maebyong and applique Yuan blue and white 'guan' jar. The layered decoration with seawaves, palm leaves, lappet borders and the main central floral motif also shows influence of Yuan blue and white porcelains while retaining the naturalistic and simplistic beauty of Korean ceramics of that period. Three lion masks were finely moulded and applied on the shoulder. It is in perfect condition with minor soil erosion and firing cracks on the base. Date: early Choson period, early 15th century; Height: 10 inches, 25.4cm; Condition: good with minor soil erosion and firing cracks. | |||||||||||||||
