| A very rare and impressive Warring States grey pottery hu jar. Stoutly and perfectly potted, surface carved with four bands of decorations, a band of palm leaves on the neck, then geometric patterns reserved on a fish roe ground on shoulder, followed by two bands of beast scrolls reserved on fish roe grounds on body, further applied with two superbly carved beast mask handles with a ring on each side, surface burnished smooth. It was TL tested by Oxford Authentication and determined to be from the Warring States period. The sample number is C100p92. Please email Oxford to confirm if they did this test. It has an excellent provenance of being from the renowned E & J Frankel Collection, New York with Collection Number C570. There are many very fine Warring States and Han ceramics in the E & J Frankel collection. Large decorated Warring States grey pottery items imitating Imperial bronzes are extremely rare.
