Outstanding, 19th century Neo Classical biscuit porcelain figure depicting Omphale, the Queen of Lydia. She is sitting nude on a throne and holding in her right hand a huge club and wearing lion's skin. Heracles, for his unintentional murder of the young boy Iphitus, was enslaved for three years by Omphale, the queen of Lydia. Slavery at Omphale's was humiliating for Heracles. She forced him to wear woman's attire and to spin together with women slaves. Meanwhile Omphale put on the lion's skin and armed herself with a club. This is a true master piece of 19th century Neo Classical art, the figure is very well modeled with great details.
MEASUREMENTS: Height: 38 cm (15 in) length: 30,5 cm (12in). Width: 15 cm (6 in).
CONDITION: Considering the age of the figure and the fragile material from which it is made, the figure is in good condition except for chips on the corners of the base, a chip on the back of the throne, and one hairline crack on the base, no repairs or restorations, which can be easily performed since the figure is white and not painted.
