Circa 1850 antique Russian Icon covered with silver riza and is hand painted. The riza is not pressed but hand made in the repousse style, hand chiseled and engraved. It is made of solid silver and stamped with several marks; 1) a Russian Imperial proof mark number 84 and a women’s head beside 2) silversmith stamp (I had attached to the listing a copy from the book “Russian Gold and Silver Artwork XV-XX”, published in Russia, showing this silversmith stamp, page 184) The painting on the wood panel is of very good quality, the faces are life like. Piece exhibits outstanding workmanship. The icon is 12 ½ inches tall and 10 ¾ inches wide. It is in very good condition with no repairs or restoration.
