$1500

Authentic antique Napoleonic document on velum signed “Marie Louise” (Wife of Napoleon and Empress of the French) and dated 1811 also signed by the Secretary Minister of the State and grand-judge Minister of Justice, the Capital writing on the document writes Napoleon, by the grace of God, Emperor of the French, King of Italy, Protector of the Confederation of Rhine Mediator of the Switzerland Confederation, &c. &c. &c., to all those to whom this letter oversees, salutation. Marie Louise, originally Maria Louise (Vienna, 1791-1847, Vienna), Empress of the French, was the eldest daughter of the Emperor Franz II. In 1810, possibly through the agency of Metternich, she was married to Napoleon, who had recently divorced the Empress Josephine. A proxy wedding took place in the Augustinerkirche in Vienna in March, followed in April by civil and religious ceremonies in Paris. In 1811 she bore a son, the King of Rome and later Duke of Reichstadt. In 1813 and 1814 she was regent of France during Napoleon's absence at war (see Napoleonic Wars). On Napoleon's fall she fled to Austria and refused to rejoin her husband on Elba. The Congress of Vienna granted her the duchies of Parma, Piacenza, and Guastalla, where she reigned from 1816 until her death. On Napoleon's death she married morganatically Count Neipperg, with whom she had lived for some years, and, after his death in 1834, Count Bombelles. In the early years of her reign she proved an enlightened ruler and introduced many social and judicial reforms.
CONDITION: The document is in good condition considering its age of 198 years old, it is mated and framed.
MEASUREMENTS: 56.5 cm x 43.7 cm (22 ¼ in x 17 ¼ in). Dimensions including the frame 72.5 cm x 59.7cm (28 ½ in x 23 ½ in)
