Rare 18th Century Mughal Shamshir Shikargar very similar to the sword published in the book “A Glossary of The Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor” By George Cameron Stone page 552 Figure 710. The very heavy and sharp blade is made of Damascus Steel carved with animals in low relief outlined in gold; Steel hilt with a damascened floral motif; Wooden scabbard covered with fine leather tooled in eastern design. Some parts of the blade are pitted. To bring the pattern out of the blade mainly the blade must be treated and polished, and this must be done by an expert as the blade is decorated in gold. The pattern is visible but not strongly visible. This is a prime example of a top quality Mughal Shikargar Shamshir; it is hard to find and rarely shows up on the market. Measured in a straight line, the entire length of the sword out of the scabbard is 37 1/4 Inches . The length of the blade is 33 Inches
