Authentic antique Napoleonic document on velum signed “Marie Louise” (Wife of Napoleon and Empress of the French) and dated 1811 also signed by the Secretary Minister of the State and grand-judge Minister of Justice, the Capital writing on the document writes Napoleon, by the grace of God, Emperor of the French, King of Italy, Protector of the Confederation of Rhine Mediator of the Switzerland Confederation, &c. &c. &c., to all those to whom this letter oversees, salutation. Marie Louise, originally Maria Louise (Vienna, 1791-1847, Vienna), Empress of the French, was the eldest daughter of the Emperor Franz II. In 1810, possibly through the agency of Metternich, she was married to Napoleon, who had recently divorced the Empress Josephine. A proxy wedding took place in the Augustinerkirche in Vienna in March, followed in April by civil and religious ceremonies in Paris. In 1811 she bore a son, the King of Rome and later Duke of Reichstadt. In 1813 and 1814 she was regent of France during Napoleon's absence at war (see Napoleonic Wars). On Napoleon's fall she fled to Austria and refused to rejoin her husband on Elba. The Congress of Vienna granted her the duchies of Parma, Piacenza, and Guastalla, where she reigned from 1816 until her death. On Napoleon's death she married morganatically Count Neipperg, with whom she had lived for some years, and, after his death in 1834, Count Bombelles. In the early years of her reign she proved an enlightened ruler and introduced many social and judicial reforms.
CONDITION: The document is in good condition considering its age of 198 years old, it is mated and framed.
MEASUREMENTS: 56.5 cm x 43.7 cm (22 ¼ in x 17 ¼ in). Dimensions including the frame 72.5 cm x 59.7cm (28 ½ in x 23 ½ in)

18th century cast bronze SWIVEL-CANNON known as “Lantaka”, “Rail Gun” or “Deck Cannon” used by the legendary Malay pirates, with small cannon-balls it was a powerful offensive weapon. Lantakas were manufactured during the 17th and early 18th century in Holland by Dutch East India Company for export to Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines. Later in the 18th century most of them were cast in Indonesia by Dutch colonists and also by local people. Since the bronze cannons were very expensive they become a symbol of wealth and a form of currency; in fact the more cannon a man owns the greater his wealth.
DETAILS: This particular example shows a beautiful green patina and traces of deep pitting, huge barrel is decorated on centre with finely sculptured figure of lizard, diamond shape decorations, seven reinforcing rings and octagonal muzzle, open touch- hole has rear sight pins and a ball probably early type of front sight. Cannon has two small trunnions and the swivel base.
MEASUREMENTS: overall length: 52 inches (132cm), weight: approximately 70 LBS.
