This is an authentic Edo period time Japanese Samurai sword guard Tsuba made of steel with a deeply chiseled and chased in relief figure of Daruma sitting on a rock and looking into the water waves; decorated in gold and copper. When the Tsuba is knocked on by a finger nail it makes a very fine ringing sound which means that it is hand forged steel and not cast iron. The Tsuba is in good condition with a dark brown patina.
