| This is a European sword or rapier from the 17th century. Such swords were used all over Western Europe, in England, Germany, Scandinavia etc. The guard is hand forged iron with a wooden grip. There are no wrappings. The top of the grip has very fine twisted wire. The quillion has some kind of repair, which at some time was soldered with copper or brass. The sword in slightly pitted, as is to be expected with swords of this age. Length: 31 ½ inches. Length of blade: 26 inches. Width of ricasso: 1 3/8 inches. | |||||||
