Antique 18th c.Turkish Ottoman Belt for Sword Yatagan
Antique 18th century Turkish Ottoman military belt. Details: The unusual front of the Ottoman belt is beautifully enriched with large oval Genuine Carnelians (Precious Stones) in raised gild silver settings mounted on a gild brass panel attached to a base made of three sown together heavy layers of leather. All of these types of belts which look very similar were constructed from two elements, the extremely decorative front, and a back made of plain leather with a simple buckle which is missing from this belt.
REFERENSES: A similar belt to this one mounted on Chain Mail armour is published in the book "Persian and Indo-Persian Arms and Armor of 16th-19th Century from Polish Collection -Catalogue exhibition Malborg Castle Museum" by Antoni Romuald Chodinski, Page 219.
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 54.5cm (21 1/2 inches). Width: 8.5cm (3 3/8 in).
