This is a pair of extremely rare ancient Chinese cast bronze stirrups from the Tang Dynasty period time (618-907 A.D). These stirrups have an open work base and sides with beaded ribs. It has a large swivel attachment with a square slot to receive the stirrup strap flanked by heads of mythical unicorn animal cast in relief and engraved.
MEASUREMENTS: Height: 18 ½ cm (7 ¼ in) Length: 12,8cm (5 in) Width 6cm (2 ¾ in) CONDITION: in good condition and is well preserved considering its age, with beautiful mottled green-blue patina showing its age and usage. REFERENCES: Not many stirrups from the Tang Dynasty period time have been preserved and it is especially rare for a pair (such as these) to be preserved. Another similar pair of stirrups is in the Royal Ontario Museum collection of Chinese Art.
