A large, and heavy, Stick Stand, ( for holding walking sticks and umbrellas), profusely decorated, in Satsuma style, with a panapoly of historical scenes enclosed within elaborately enamelled textile (?) patterns and surmounted by a large coiled dragon amongst stylized clouds. This item was made in Japan for export to Europe or America during the late 19th or early 20th Century. Condition: there are chips to the rim, some cracks around the base and losses to the head and claws of the dragon. An attractively enamelled and gilded late 19th Century Satsuma earthenware cup and saucer depicting insects and a frog amongst flowers and grasses. There is the impressed signature for the artist, Taizan, on the base of both cup and saucer. Condition: there are two hairlines - extremely faint on the outside but clearly visible to the interior running from the top of the handle; no further damages and no restoration. An very attractive Satsuma koro finely decorated with 'famille-verte' enamels and made during the Meiji period (1868-1911). A phoenix (in flight, amongst clouds) is painted on each side. The cover is in the form of a Shishi on rockwork. Condition very good. There are two chips on the underside of the cover. No further damage and no restoration. 5 inches (13cm) High
