A large Chinese export teapot with original cover,superbly decorated in underglaze blue - depicting pavillions in a river landscape. The shape is based on a Leeds creamware prototype that was sent to China for copying. The 18th Century gilding was added after arrival in England. This item was made circa 1785-1790 - late in the reign of the Qianlong Emperor. Condition - pristine - shows no sign of use, no chips, cracks or restoration and no wear to the gilding.
