A bamboo Bitong (Brushpot) stained dark brown, possibly in imitation of Zitan. It is carved on one side with a river landscape and on the other with calligraphy. On the top section is a poem which (in Pinyin) reads Liu Qu Dan Qing Zhao Yen Ming which can be translated "The painting will stay to brighten your eyes"; on the middle section are carved different depictions of the Shou (Long Life) character followed by Gao Gu - "Archaic" and at the base is carved -Yu Ban Zhu - the name of a herbaceous plant (Latin name Polygonatum Odoratum) an image of which is depicted above the characters and is also carved above the landscape. This item was probably made in China circa 1880-1940 during either the late Qing or Republic periods. Condition - very good - there are age cracks but there are no losses and there has been no restoration. 25.5cm (10inches) high.

一件竹刻书画笔筒，通体染成深棕色，似紫檀的颜色。笔筒一面刻有山水，另一面刻有诗文：顶部是一诗句“留取丹青照眼明”，中间为不同字体的“寿”字样，落款为“高古”，底部有三字“玉版竹”。作于清末民初约1880-1940年间。 |
