Blue White Lotus Moulded Dish, Kangxi Reign (1662-1722)
A small finely painted 17th/18th Century dish moulded, to the reverse, in the form of a stylized lotus flower. The interior is painted with a cellular border to the outside surrounding two rows of lotus shaped panels filled with flower sprays; to the centre is a peony spray surrounded by flowering branches and enclosed within a double ring. The base carries a flower mark within a double ring - this mark is perfectly aligned with the interior decoration. This item was made in China, probably for export, during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722). Condition - there are "frits" (production glaze loss) and three chips, two with associated hairlines, to the rim (please view enlargements 5 & 6); no further damages and no restoration. 15.5 cm (6.1 inches) diameter.
