| A German hammered solid silver cake knife or pie server. A clean Art Deco form the entire surface covered with a fine hammered texture. The Bruckmann firm produced the work of many leading German designers, Peter Bruckmann (1865-1937) was the first chairman of the Deutscher Werkbund (founded 1907). The werkbund was a trade organization committed to the idea of marrying Arts & Crafts sensibilities with German industry, other founding members working alongside Bruckmann were designers Josef Hoffman, Peter Behrens and Richard Reimerschmid. This large serving piece measures a full 9 1/2 inches in length by 2 1/8 inches in width and is made from heavy gauge solid silver, weighing in at approx. 81grams. The reverse is hallmarked with the German state crescent moon and crown silver guarantee mark, .800 silver standard and with the stylized Eagle maker's mark of the well regarded German maker Bruckmann & Sohne. Aside from typical mild surface scratches and polish wear it is excellent condition and Bruckmann is written about and a number of examples of their work & their maker's mark are illustrated in - Art Nouveau and Art Deco Silver - By Annelies Krekle-Aalberse and in - Metallkunst - by Karl Brohan. • | ||
