Coin Silver ~ EARLY LARGE ~ spoon Fiddle WISHART c1810
Interesting example of a transitional design in an early 19th century American coin silver table serving spoon. It is an early version of the fiddle pattern, no shoulders above the bowl and the angle out to the fiddle is very slight. The handle is beautifully hand engraved with fancy script monogram with handsome flourishes,as pictured below. Large size, the spoon measures a full 8 3/4 inches in length it is in excellent condition with virtually no tipwear. Maker's mark on the reverse as for Hugh Wishart, a smith working in New York c. 1784-1819. Fine example with a beautifully clear maker's mark.
