HALLMARKED Silver ~ CHINESE EXPORT ~ Fork EARLY c.1840
A fine and early example of Chinese Export silver made for the American or European market by the silversmith Wongshing of Canton. The same maker's mark and other examples of Wongshing's silver work are illustrated in - Chinese Export Silver 1785 to 1885 (pub. Museum of the China Trade, 1975). This China Trade dining fork measures approx. 7 inches in length and is crafted from heavy gauge solid silver, weighing approx. 50 grams. Aside from typical polish wear it is in very fine condition. The reverse is marked with English pseudomarks and maker's mark - W for Wongshing. Nice example.
