| Just a beautiful large scale 19th century punch ladle. Terrific form and decoration, the long curving stem terminates at an elaborate egg shaped finial with an engraved band of decoration that mirrors the band around the very deep tombal form bowl. The handle stem splits into a beautiful tripartite divide that attaches to the bowl at three points. The whole piece is finished with the lovely eggshell matte finish popular in the mid-Victorian era and the interior retains its original gilding. This ladle measures a full 11 1/4 inches in length with a 3 inch diameter bowl. The underside of the bowl is marked with the Whiting Trademark stamp, "STERLING" and "23", I am sure it is by Whiting, although George Sharp of Philadelphia is also a possibility. Fabulous piece in excellent condition. | ||
