Lambayeque Whistling Vessel with a Bat atop of a Legume
Single spout bridge handle whistling effigy vessel of a crescent shaped legume with a bat standing on the upper edge. Decorated with orange slip on buff ceramic with octopus ink details. The bat is a rare image to find in ceramics, especially Moche and Lambayeque ones. The whistle is behind the bat by the handle. A similar Lambayeque vase is illustrated in Ceramics of Ancient Peru by Christopher Donnan pg.89 Dimensions: Height 8" x Length 6 1/2". Peru, Middle Sican, Batan Grande, North Coast circa 800-1100AD. Very good condition, minor restoration, all parts original. Provenance available.
