A classic master carving in ivory tusk from Burma ca. 1950 AD. Central row has 8 adult elephants, on each sides we have 10 baby elephants all in different postures. This carving depicting the "Hathi" elephant motive was one of the acknowledged figures to be able to master, before graduating from craftsman to expert master carver. L: 29,5 cm or 11.5", diameter: 2.5 cm or 1". Ivory is pre-ban.
A superb Thai seal, with a registered company name in 3 languages, Thai, Chinese and English. Has a dark patinated metal knob on one side of the handle. Well aged ivory and traces of frequent use, the seal image seems to be in fine condition. Traces of the red ink used. Probably from the 1930-1950'ties, but could be older.
