Garuda, Nepal, ca. 1850 AD, bronze

A wonderfully sculpted Garuda, Bronze, made by lost wax method, probably by Newari craftsmen, Kathmandu valley, Nepal, circa 1850 AD. As you can see Garuda is ready to set off with his set of double wings. Garuda has beautiful jewelry in his crown, his ears and around his neck. Garudas face is nicely done with huge eyebrows, many details. Feathers, hands and claws are also superbly modelled. Standing on a beautiful single Lotusbase. Nice patina. No traces of gilt. Sealed but maybe reclosed. H: 11.8 cm, W: 7.5 cm at base.
