It is an exceptional tripod Satsuma miniature censer. This two-handled censer, richly painted and gilded on each part, is decorated with two scenes with much of characters. Condition: The vase is in excellent condition, but the cover has some damages: it was broken into two and was restuck, the qilin has some little chips visibles to the photographs. Finely painted in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear crackled glaze with flying birds, blossoming trees, mountains, pagoda, iris and chrysanthemums, gilt geometric decoration in colour reserves on shoulders and base. Signed underside, Shimazu family crest, cartouche reads Satsuma. Japan, Satsuma, Taisho period (1912-1926). Perfect antique condition, no chips, cracks or repairs, see photographs. Measurement: 11.4 in (29cm) high.
