Encircling both the base and the lid are bands of painted water waves. A blue glazed bat sign on the bottom.

Early period 17-18 Century Chinese Carved Ivory Guan Yin. This old statue is vividly carved with full of details. Guan yin is holding prayer beads on one hand, and another hand is holding a book scroll. There is a tiny sitting Buddha on her forehead. The hand carving is delicate, detailed and superb.
