This is a very nice and RARE set of Taotie mask ( Lion Mask ) with handle. This kind of Taotie Mask is often seen on the side of the Han Period Vessel, ( please refer to photo # 10,11 )
However, this piece of Mask is an exceptional piece in large size and was expected to be used by the Leader or Chief of the Han community at the ancient time.It was used as a door bell. The ring,( handle) is a 2-pieces ring set. However, this piece of the ring is still stuck together by the dirt. we did not separated them.
Time : Han dynasty, 206 BC-200 AD.
Condition : Top left conner was broken, the rest is in good condition. The handle still stuck in the mask and can not separated them. The patina is a very dry green patina with some BLUE patina encrusted. Please see more details of the condition on the photo.
