A fine and large 'rattle bead' necklace, of very large silver/copper hollow beads (silver with a high copper content), each double-holed for stringing; somewhat graduated in size, from 1 1/2" - 1 3/4" (4 - 4.5 cm.), and many showing textile impressions, from associated pieces from that tomb. Pre-Columbian Colima Culture, West Coast Mexico, circa 200 B.C. - 200 A.D. A group of four miniature 'squash' pottery vessels, the name derived from the shape in imitation of squashes which were cultivated in the 'New World', and in miniaturization of the larger vessels the Colima were noted for. Measuring approximately 1 1/4" - 2" each, 3-5 cm., and most with former collector or 'museum' numbers to the bottoms, they are reasonably priced at $25., each.

BaKuba or Kuba peoples, Congo, early-mid twentieth century. This is a finely-woven basketry cap - worn exclusively by Noblemen to the Royal Court, as a sign of rank. Finely woven from raffia vineferis, a species of palm, it is the most difficult of all natural fibers to work with. Measuring approximately 7" x 3" - 18 x 7.5 cm. it shows some wear, typical of all authentic early African pieces. Rare.
