Sailor Marine Motif Sampler 1852
A superbly executed sampler, this peice was executed by Catherine Patterson of Bonnyrig age 12 in 1852. Under the alphabets, Catherine includes her genealogical history in the form of crowned initials. Particularly noteworthy is the distinctive marine motif. Catherine includes a sailor, standing inexplicably on a chair with the words "Royal Tar" framing the dimunitive sailor's head. Two ships in full sail are set on either side of the sailor. A beautifully executed sampler in original rosewood frame. Condition is excellent. 15 x18 inches framed
