Unless you are a expert Japanese dolls of this type are very hard to date. This doll is obviously pre 1900 and I would date to around 1870 but that is as close as I can come to a date. He is 10 and 1/2 inches high and 9 inches wide not counting his battle baton. The bed roll is uncommon as far as I can tell The details and extreme care with which he has been made show this to be of superior workmanship. The tip of the baton is damaged and needs repainting.
