This is a fabulous Chinese antique figural incense burner. It stands about 17 1/2 inches tall with the stand and about 20 inches wide at the widest point. The total weight is right around 8 lbs. The birds are each just over 15 inches long. The wings come off to revel the hollow bodies of the birds. It was obviously made to be a censer for burning incense. By the size it could have been used in a temple. The stand is almost 12 1/2 inches high at the highest point. The stand shows some are ...click for details

$650 - sale

Unless you are a expert Japanese dolls of this type are very hard to date. This doll is obviously pre 1900 and I would date to around 1870 but that is as close as I can come to a date. He is 10 and 1/2 inches high and 9 inches wide not counting his battle baton. The bed roll is uncommon as far as I can tell The details and extreme care with which he has been made show this to be of superior workmanship. The tip of the baton is damaged and needs repainting. The top of the sword looks a littl ...click for details

The stands are 13 1/4 x 12 3/4 x 2 inches in size. They are part of the Chase Gilmore estate (He owned the World of Art gallery in Chicago). They are each made from a solid block of wood and would be able to take a considerable weight. They are in very good condition as you can see from the photographs.

From research that I have done I would date these to the Ming Dynasty. On one figure the cavity on the back of the head is still sealed. A long paper filled with detailed calligraphy was with these when I purchased them. From the look of the paper it was originally in one of the cavities. These figures are particularly interesting do to their size and rank badges and the fact that they have stayed together for such a long period of time. The tallest is 14 3/4 inches high and 7 inches wide a ...click for details

This is a well carved large Brushwasher in the form of a lotus leaf boat with a small child or accolade and smaller lotus flowers. The light colored jade is mottled & russet in part. The fitted hand carved zitan wood stand appears to be original to the brush washer. It is carved to imitate waves. Based on my research and knowledge I would date this to the Ming dynasty. This double sided Tapa is most likely from the South Pacific (Samoa or Fiji). It had been stored in a folded condition for a very long time so there is some damage as you can see. The colors are still very vibrate, you can almost see the artist painting them, they are so alive. The fiber is very thin indicating that this is an older one probably from around 1900. A very unusual feature is the different designs on both sides of the cloth. Size: 78 x 103 inches (6.5 x 8.6 feet) Shipping: Fre ...click for details

SOLD - Thank You

This large "jade tree" has a most unusual base, I have not been able to find another one like this. It is very well executed and is in excellent condition there are perhaps two petals missing, nothing else wrong at all. The white stone appears to be jade, the brown and green are agate, the purple is amethyst, the pink is rose quartz and I'm not sure what the yellow stone is. The little buds on the amethyst are clear quartz. Size: 19 inches high and 17 inches wide including the ba ...click for details
