Description: This late 17th century Battledore is painted with courtyard scenes and hexagonal patterns. It is attributed to Tesa Mitsunari according to a note on the back. I believe this should read Tosa instead of Tesa. Tosa Mitsunari lived between 1646 to 1710. This is the correct time frame for this artwork. It is framed in a shadow box frame and is complete with what appears to be its original silk brocade handle cover. This hagoita was made for the Japanese nobility most likely for the Imp ...click for details

Sold - Thank you

This well cast figure is just over 8 inches tall, 6.25 inches wide and 4 inches deep . This depiction of Syamatara is most likely of Chinese - Tibetan origin. There are about a dozen small patches of corrosion on different parts of the sculpture. These are white to bluish in color. Aside from the corrosion there is some rubbing of the gold gilding. The "belt buckle" is a clearly defined yin - yang symbol.

$420.00 - Firm price

This is a very unusual if not unique antique brush pot. It is made of beautiful translucent jade. It's base is a late 19th century one yen silver Japanese coin. As far as I can tell the coin dates to 1894. Both the jade and the coin are in excellent condition. I would expect that the brush pot is of Chinese origin but it could be Japanese. It measures 8.5 cm's long and is 5.5 cm's wide and dates to the late 1800 to very early 1900's.
