"The Art Of War", the best Chinese military treatise written by Sun Tzu had a great influence on Japanese Samurais at the Warring States Period. Takeda shingen, Dimyo of Kai area had studied strategy of Sun Tzu.
His famous battle standard "Furinkazan" is a proverb from "The Art Of War", meaning fast as the wind, silent as a forest, ferocious as fire and immovable as a mountain. The battle standard and Samurais of Takeda have been praised by other people, as "The strongest army" of Japan.
The origin of the towel's design comes from the battle standard "Furinkazan", a simple 4 Chinese character on the rectangular cloth. Coloring of the cloth is deep vermilion such as Japanese traditional lacquer ware. And the Chinese character written with a brush represents its own powerful personality.
This item is hand perfected by artisan who has taken over the traditional Edo workmanship. For expressing unique energy of the letter written with a brush, the item designed simple black letter on the white plain cloth.

We are now offering a piece of true Wabi-sabi taste item - great to complement your interiors or abode in a peaceful and simple design. Please take note that the acrylic frame is not included but is highly-suggested to be hanged as such and for display in living rooms or even for Japanese design shops or restaurants. Truly a Japonisme symbol to remind you of the highest discipline and arts refined during the Warring States period of Japan, perfected the base of contemporary Japanese art and design.
Hand towel or TENUGUI became popular in Japan with the spread of use of cotton in the Edo period. Among the hand towels made that time, those made by Edo artisans with patterns of ukiyo-e and kabuki were especially appreciated for their refined design.
Date clan, is an outstanding samurai family as their influence during the Japanese Warring states period or Sengoku Jidai. And Date Masamune, is a famous general of that period who is renowned for his distinguished military arts with an erudite personality.
Kabutos of the Date clan have the most refined shape of the Kabutos in this particular period. This item is hand-perfected by artisans who have taken over the traditional Edo workmanship. The origin of the design comes from the Kabuto ornament of Date clan "crescent moon", the only gold ornament of black-lacquered armor. The distinguishing feature of this hand towel is its gold-brown color crescent on the black cloth. We avoided dyeing it mostly with gold color, to represent a refined modern design. A strip of cloth is possible to make this unique pattern as almost same size of the real ornament.
As a daily necessity, although hand towels are very useful with its high absorbency but they are also widely used as interior goods or wrapping material.

This item reproduced amply in great detail based from the "Sixty-two-plate-ribbed Kabuto", which had been dedicated for victory set at the Odawara castle led by Takeda Shingen. Using high quality Japanese boxwood, the Kabuto is carved closely with Sixty-two ribs on the surface, and strings of Shikoro or a suspended neck guard. All of works were finished scrupulously with marginal capacity of wooden sculpture.
The original Kabuto tied with sixty-two iron plates, which is not only well-fortified but also practical to wear. Ribbed pattern lined orderly to create a delicate refinement. It is such a suitable Kabuto for Shingen who is referred to as "The Tiger of the Kai Area" for his great martial prowess on the battlefield.
Front ornament of the extant kabuto is lost in history with no actual image written, but with deep knowledge and research of Takeda Shingenfs personality and related war articles preserved, we presumed this shape of the maedate ornament, and from the joint of it, added a Hanabishi and hoe-shaped helmet crest. It is the first Restoration effort of this Kabuto in complete Japanese history wherein we put and pay with so much historical value and respect deemed appropriate to Shingen's powerful and daunting aura.

This works represents the most famous scene at the Battle of ”Kawanakajima”, which is famous for its fierceness.
Glaring at the strongest rival, Uesugi Kensin, who has beaten through Takeda's troops and unexpectedly dashed into the main camp, Singen took Kensin's sword swung down with merely his referee's fan. Since all the actions were taken in a twinkle, most of our efforts have been made on the expression of the tenseness air. Besides, Singen's armor and clothing have all been recreated same as the originals. Meanwhile the original base makes the works look well balanced.
