This article is a sculpture of Indra, one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals. The Heavenly Generals are servant of Medicine Buddha(Yakushi Nyorai), and they protect The Twelve vows of Medicine Buddha, and people who believe in the Buddha. Indra is also a guardian deity of the year of the horse, and said that his true nature is Ksitigarbha (Zizou Bosatsu). The article is made from a single block of wood. Using different chisels, the item was carved delicately in detail. Surface of the article is colored with natural dye lightly, and the grain of the wood is not painted over intently to remain feeling of fine material. The gold color made in Kindei(paint including gold) accents the article. The year of production: 2006 * Katsura tree is one of the largest hardwoods in Asia Since the wood is hard to decay, it had been used as building materials. Color of its surface is white at first, and it would change to beautiful red due to the passage of time. *Regarding property of wooden sculpture Biography of Tokihiko Ishikawa Born in 1958 in Tokyo, Japan. The artist, Tokihiko Ishikawa has experienced restorations of traditional statues for a long time. His solid technique is reflected on not only firm molding but also unique expression of the articles which suits modern life-style.
