Important polychrome terracotta Art Nouveau style bust representing a young woman. Her hair is attached by a high bun and her light, eventful dress makes visible her right shoulder. We can notice the realism of the figure and the light casual dress. Signed "Goldscheider" and stamped "Reproduction reserved" in a reserve at the rear of the base. Numbered 961 21. The Goldscheider porcelain and majolica manufactory was established by Friedrich Goldscheider (1845-1897) in Vienna in 1885. The factory produced various ceramics, from ordinary faience vessel to luxurious porcelain objects. However, it is its polychrome terracotta sculptures that made its reputation as the polychrome followed the naturalistic approach of the sculpture in Austria. The Goldscheider manufactory was thus the source of technical innovations in polychrome and patina. Friedrich exposes its terracotta objects throughout Europe. He participated at the Leipzig Fair in 1887, at the Universal Exposition of Barcelona in 1888 and, a year later, at the World Fair in Paris. The following years, Friedrich Goldscheider presents its creations at all major events, including the Paris Salon. His figures and vases are widely appreciated and several firms are then established in Germany, France, England but also in the United States. In 1892, a subsidiary for the production of bronze is created in Paris, 45 Rue de Paradis and, in 1896, a store is opened 28 Avenue de l'Opera. After Friedrich Goldscheider’s death in 1897, his wife Regina and his brother Alois took the firm over. The production of figures continued and one started under the influence of Art Nouveau to make sculptural vases. In 1953, following the financial difficulties, the firm was shut down. Pair of polychrome porcelain vases decorated with flowers in high relief on green background signed Jacob Petit
Pair of porcelain polychrome vases signed Jacob Petit decorated with flowers in high relief on light green background. Highly caracteristic to the original and full of fantasy style of the artist, with the extraordinary abundance of Rocaille motifs, scrolls, branches of flowers and stems in shimmering, easily recognizable colours. The openworked base and collar are decorated with golden palmettes, volutes and interlaces, the same as the central part of the vases. Both vases are marked in blue JP. The collars are restored and some chips on the flowers. Jacob Petit (1796-1865): the most famous porcelain manufacturer of the century had not the vocation of ceramist. He began studying painting at Gros, then leaves Paris for England which gave him the taste of the decorative object: on his return to France in 1830, he hastens to publish a book of interior decoration including all that relates to furniture. Soon, porcelain seemed the best way to express his tastes. A Sevres, a studio will be a first ephemeral attempt. By 1830, Jacob Petit and his brother Mardochée (in fact, there is no brother Mardochée since Jacob Petit's real name is Jacob Mardoché. His real brother Bernard is committed in the Napoleonic armies as a draftsman cartographer. Jacob Petit had made his name with the nickname and the surname of his wife), Jacob Petit, therefore, a firm is then established in Belleville. The success and ambition help, in 1838, the ceramist buys modest Weill Baruch firm, in Fontainebleau. In 1850, he groups his two factories in Avon, but some years later, in 1862, he retires from Paradise Street Poissonière, transferring its business to one of his workers, Jacquemain. Jacob Petit will obtein several patents: "Tisane giving time", "Heads of porcelain dolls," "the application of gold on porcelain" or "new molding process." Pair of porcelain vases signed Jacob Petit in Paris with polychrome decorated flowers in high relief on white background. We can notice the inventiveness of forms, the contrast of bright colors and the careful work of small white flowers, characteristic decoration of this manufacturer of porcelain of very original and full of fantasy style. The mid-nineteenth century saw the triumph of the Rocaille, but also the triumph of reliefs. Increasingly, the improvements made to molding make possible to manufacture parts quickly with reliefs which were decors in themselves. The two vases are signed in blue JP. Very good condition, some petals slightly chipped.

Beautiful gilded bronze Napoleon III pendulum. The dial with Roman and Arabic numerals surrounded by pearls and rococo patterns is adorned with a draped woman caressing a dove, in the presence of a Cupid with a letter around its neck. The openwork base, richly decorated with flowers, foliage and plates in alabaster rests on legs adorned with shells and acanthus leaves. Original movement in working condition. In vogue under Louis XVI, the theme of Cupid knows then infinite variations. Treated here in a rococo style, our pendulum reflects the eclectic taste that dominates the Second Empire, as a particular passion of the Empress Eugenie in the second half of the eighteenth century.

A Charles X pendulum in gilded bronze composed by an independent dial, containing the movement and flanked by a young woman draped in an antique dress. The dial decorated with flares, ribbons, garlands of flowers and doves is surmounted by a vase on which rests a drapery and two doves. The base is decorated with a frieze that evokes Orpheus or Cupid sat beside his lyre and holding his quiver. The pendulum rests on four flattened ball legs. Movement with a thread in working condition.
In Antiquity, doves were offered in sacrifice to the goddesses of love, such as Aphrodite and Astarte. This symbolism associated with the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice reinforces the idea of an allegory of love. Under the Restoration, the pendula orned with subjects become very popular. Number of characters and scenes inspired by classical antiquity found on Louis XVI clocks, were revisited during the first thirty years of the nineteenth century. Among the most common, we find Apollo, Orpheus, Mercury, Adonis, etc..
