He wears a crown of reeds, a paddle in his hand, his body partly naked and covered with drapery. The base supported by four legs in the shape of dolphins is adorned with all the symbolism related to River God, in this case the Tiber, as well as attributes of the Roman army such as a helmet or the SPQR mark. The abbreviation for the motto "Senatus Populus Que Romanus" (meaning "The senate and the Roman people") was the emblem of the Roman Republic, and by tradition of the Roman Empire. More than any other symbol, the four letters representing the Roman political power. In addition, the center of these symbols, the representation of the she-wolf feeding Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome reinforces the inextricable link between politics and religion in the Roman Empire. Dial with Roman numerals guilloche background. Original mechanism with a thread in working condition. Circa :1820 Dim: W: 13,8 in - D: 5,9in - H: 19,7in. Dim: L:35cm, P:15cm, H:50cm.
