Patinated bronze representing Mercury or Hermes the messenger god, sitting on a rock, wearing his unique winged hat with a musculature of a young Adonis. Resting on a circular base of black marble. Cast of the nineteenth century from the original by Jean Baptiste Pigalle. Great French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle was born in Paris in 1714. He works his art very young under the guidance of Robert Le Lorrain and Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. Convinced that his art is the meaning of his life, he joined Italy in 1734 to perfect his technique. On his return, he began his "Mercury attaching his sandal" (1740), which helped him integrate teh "Beaux Arts". His reputation swells in the heart of the Parisian aristocracy. Madame de Pompadour took him under her wing at the same time as the orders flow. Juggling between the baroque and classical he produced the portrait of Diderot, Voltaire and then carried out the famous funeral monuments for the Maréchal de Saxe (Strasbourg, completed in 1776). He died in Paris in 1785, leaving behind a remarkable achievement.

Bronze sculpture with dark green patina representing Milo of Croton opening a tree trunk, the legs of both sides of the body, tense muscles representing very well the intensity of effort. It is signed Edme Dumont (1720-1775) on the terrace, the casting in lost wax by Susse Frères. This bronze dating from the 19th century is after the original marble made in 1754 and kept in the Louvre Museum. In Greek mythology the athlete Milo of Crotona, when an old man, was walking alone in a forest in Italy and saw an oak tree opening in wide cracks, he wanted to check his remaining strength. He began to tear it and introduced his fingers, oak recanted and took him prisoner, and Milo of Croton was later devoured by wolves.

This group in silvered bronze, representing the three Graces, was realized at the time of Napoleon III after the monument of the heart of King Henri II by Germain Pilon executed in the sixteenth century. The bronze is resting on a green marble base. It is marked at the base "after Germain Pilon". The Graces are considered minor deities as companions of Aphrodite. They are the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome, the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. In most cases, the three Graces personify beauty, gentleness and friendship. They served as a theme for many artists. Germain Pilon, born around 1528 in Paris and died in 1590 in the same city, is one of the most important sculptors of the French Renaissance. He was the sculptor of tombs of French kings of the sixteenth century. Son of the sculptor André Pilon, he learned from him, in shaping the clay and stone cutting. Appointed Controller of Stamps and Coins of the king, he also learned the art of carving and cast bronze. From 1558 to his death, he worked for the Court of France, creating the tombs of Francois I and Henri II, the effigies of him and Catherine de Medici, and the royal mint.
