A Terre de Lorraine Venus, leaning on a trunk behind her on her left is turning her face down to her right hand holding a fruit. Her right leg is bent and her right hand is resting on her back. Marked NIDERVILLER on the base, and the double C with the crown, representing the period of the Comte de Custine management at Niderviller (1770-1785).
Very good condition.

A brown patinated bronze sculpture representing Milo de Crotone dividing in two parts the trunk of a tree, his legs on the sides of the trunk, with all his muscles tense in order to represent the effort. Signed E. Dumont 1768. This bronze is dated from the 19th century after the original marble by Edme Dumont (1720-1775) part of the Louvre Museum collection.

Sculpture en bronze à patine brune représentant Milo de Crotone ouvrant un tronc d'arbre, les jambes de part et d'autre du tronc, les muscles tendus représentant très bien l'intensité de l'effort. Signé E. Dumont 1768. Ce bronze date du 19° siècle d'après l'original en marbre d'Edmé Dumont (1720-1775) conservé au Musée du Louvre. Dans la mythologie grecque l'athlète Milo de Crotone,
alors déjà âgé, se promenait seul dans une forêt en Italie, apercevant un chêne s'ouvrant en son milieu en de larges fentes, il voulut vérifier s'il lui restait de la force. Il entreprit de le déchirer et introduisit ses doigts, le chêne se rétracta et le fit prisonnier, puis Milo de Crotone se fit dévorer par des loups.

A terracotta sculpture by Ugo Cipriani (1897-1960), a sculptor who was born in Florence, where we can still see one of his most famous works, a bust of the patriot Guglielmo Oberdan, in the place named after him. He produced many fine art deco statuary items in spelter, bronze and terracotta. Here a man is pulling a net, leaning on his right leg bent on the ground. The other one is stretched just as the arms in order to support their effort, a position which perfectly suggests the strength and the elegance of the movement.
Very good condition.

Une sculpture en terre cuite de Ugo Cipriani (1897-1960), sculpteur originaire de Florence, ville où se trouve une de ses oeuvres les plus connues, un buste du patriote Guglielmo Oberdan, situé dans la place portant son nom. Il a produit de nombreuses statues de style art déco, notamment en bronze et terre cuite.
Ici un homme tirant un filet est appuyé sur sa jambe droite pliée à terre, l'autre étant étendue pour aider l'action de ses bras sur la corde du filet, une position dynamique suggérant parfaitement la puissance et l'élégance de l'effort physique.
