SOLD

This is a rare and wonderful treat. It's a Spanish colonial brass stirrup which is considered to be part of the trappings of a Conquistador. The heavy, metal stirrups are fashioned to protect the feet during raids and battles. Being made of brass prevented them from rusting.

What is REALLY unusual about this one is that it has the name Zoila Perez scratched into one side of it. The name was obviously scratched in by the owner, as the brass has eroded and been polished over the centuries, almost obliterating the name. Further, the name Zoila is a woman's name, I believe, which is strange. Perhaps the owner scratched his wife's name into the stirrup, or, Zoila Perez was a woman of some considerable standing who visited the New World at the time of the Spanish Conquest... this remains to be solved...

Measures: 10.75" in length.

Condition: expected wear and stress fractures to the piece. Displays very nicely.
