For your consideration is this fabulous, ex-museum Egyptian anthropoid sarcophagus. Wonderfully complete and very ornate. This sarcophagus was C-14 Carbon Date Tested by Professor Austin Long, University of Arizona. Most famously, he also tested the "Shroud of Turin". Results indicated a manufacture date of 806-420 B.C. This piece was one of set of three found in the same tomb. They were exhibited in the Geneva Museum in Switzerland.

This sarcophagus is complete, in that it retains both the lid and the coffer with many of the cedar tenons which bind the lid to the coffer.

Stands 6' tall. Some restoration to the face, and minimal touching to the gesso and pigments.

This piece survives in fantastic condition.

Adorning the front are a large, sweeping pectoral necklace painted in red, black and white pigments. Below, a register containing the "Four Sons of Horus" - Duamatef, Qebusenef, Imseti and Hapy, all of who's names are written in hieroglyphic adjacent to their respective characatures. Below that, a single, vertical register of hieroglyphic which translates roughly as "An offering the King gives, The Osiris, Principal of the West, The Great God, Lord of the ...Vessel(?), Gives Praise... Beautiful Lord...etc.".

Provenance provided to purchaser. Price and more concise information regarding this item may be obtained upon request.
