This is a very fine, rare example of holyland pottery dating to the Iron Age II Phase, circa 1000 - 900 BC. Formed with a bulbous, spherical body and tapered, long neck, the handle attached at the centre of the body and the centre of the neck. Typically, this type of juglet is rendered in burnished blackware, and this one is made from tan, redware. This piece is not wheel-thrown, but, rather, it's hand hewn, using the technique of forming the vessel entirely by hand. Condition: Perfect. No losses whatsoever, with good adhesions and evidence of age obvious. Measures: 3" tall. Comes with it's own display stand, as this piece does not sit upright on it's own. Provenance provided to purchaser.

This is a fine little flask (referred to as an Aryballos) used in ancient times to hold and dispense expensive oils or perfume. The narrow neck and delicate cup spout evidence the restricting application of the oil to and from this vase. Perfumes and oils were very expensive in ancient times, and narrow-necked vases such as these were used to dispense and store the precious liquids with the utmost of care.
Measuring 9 cm tall.
Condition: Repaired professionally at the neck and across the handle from a single break. Good adhesions and evidence of age.
Dates to the time of King Herod the Great and Jesus, circa 100 BC - 100 AD.
Provenance provided to purchaser.
