This is a fantastic example of an ancient Egyptian carved wall frieze. Although fragmentary, this piece has the quality of carving only accomplished by the most expert artists of ancient Egypt. This piece dates to the Late Period in Egyptian history, circa 712 - 657 BCE, or, 25th Dynasty. Carved in sunken relief with five horizontal lines of hieroglyphic text, which reads: (1)"Made in the presence of the King Himself. Year 18. His majesty commanded that one provide the temple, (2) of the town Ma'adi with fields..., (3) the southern [boundary] being the southern canal of..., (4) the king's scribe Kh..., (5) water..." Beautifully executed, and mounted permanently on a fine, bronze plinth. This piece measures 9.5" (24.2 cm) by 7.75" (19.7 cm). Displays wonderfully. Worthy of any fine collection. Provenance provided to purchaser. |
