This is a very large and impressive amulet worn by a priest in the Late Period of Egyptian history, circa 600 BCE. The piece measures 7.5 cm tall and 5 cm wide. Intact and choice, with some wear to the surface, an indication that this piece was actually worn by someone for a considerable amount of time prior to burial. The leopard symbolizes priesthood in ancient Egyptian iconography. The priest who wore this would have most likely also worn a leopard's skin as a sash, indicating his administrative role. A beautiful piece. Provenance provided to purchaser. |
