Rare and fabulous Art Deco era figural ring depicting a turban wearing gypsy fortune teller holding a diamond “crystal ball” in a 6 pointed star shaped setting. The shoulders of the ring are 2 snakes coiled in opposing directions. The high points on this ring are smooth from years of proud wear and attest to its age. What I love about this ring is that it is what I call a working antique/vintage ring, ie. you don’t have to baby it. A person living a 21st century life can wear this ring without worrying about damaging it, unlike most other vintage/antique ring styles. It’s a solid hefty 5.8 dwt. of 14 karat yellow gold with a 14 karat white gold flush set 18 point old mine cut diamond. US ring size 7.75 BEWARE! Since posting this ring, I have come across 3 other versions of it. I believe they are all MODERN REPRODUCTIONS. The detail on all of the others is sharp, and the ring looks quite garish. The "crystal ball" is a less expensive stone like a bad quality ruby or opal or amethyst. Tiny diamonds(?) are set in the eyes of the fortune teller and/or snakes. And last but not least, the ring is slightly smaller than mine -- as would happen in a recasting from an original. They all sell for less than mine, as they should, for an item that is not old nor unique and lacks an 18 point old mine cut diamond.

Designed by well known artist M.M. Rogers, this ring reflects the beauty of the southwest. Established in 1990 by jewelry designer Michael Rogers, the M. M. Rogers Studio approaches jewelry making with an unique sense of old word technique, and elegantly structured design. This is a Native American handcrafted vintage ring from early in his career. This design is no longer being made. This tapered silver band is topped with a solid striped 14 kt gold plaque flanked by 2 triangular stamp marks. Although I don't know the original inspiration behind this design, it reminds me of the stripes on a Navaho Chief’s blanket. The inside is stamped CN, the initials of its maker, as well as the copyrighted M.M. Rogers signature, 14K and .925 (numerical mark for sterling silver). See photos.
Ring measures 7/8" diameter from outside edge to outside edge and is a size 8.
