It's over 70 years since a young nun, Sister Mary Barbara of the Augustinian Canonesses of the Lateran, also known as Barbara Vernon, created the original sketches that would become the Bunnykins pattern for the Royal Doulton China company. Produced since 1934, "Bunnykins" china is found in the nursery of the Japanese Royal Family; was used by Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret of Great Britain when they were children.
This Bunnykins set from 1936 is one of the oldest designs available. It is signed and dated on the bottoms. See photos. The front of the single handle cup/mug depicts 2 March Hares chasing after a hat on a blustery Spring day. The back of the mug/cup depicts another bunny with his umbrella blown inside out. The oatmeal bowl has a scene of rabbit chaos as bunny family attempts to wall paper their home.
