E.T.C. Fish dish with slightly domed center and slightly upturned edge. Heavily hammered brass. We found this with its interesting stain that the seller thought was a spattered enamel decoration (!), and kept it rather than fiddling with the patina. Very heavy piece. 7-7/8" W.
This piece is an absolute knockout. The perfect Valentine or anniversary gift for a sweetheart. Round silver box with removable flat lid. Applied heart-shaped finial on lid. Chased pattern of hearts around the outside edge. Heavy and wonderful. Currently has a lightly engraved inscription on the underside of the lid: "From / May to Dick / December 4th 1938." This could be kept intact for historical reasons or could easily be buffed out and re-inscribed. 3-1/4" W and 1-1/2 ...click for details
Dirk Van Erp sterling child's fork, very modern looking, with thick blunted tines and handle that curves back dramatically at the end to form a rest. Nicely hammered surfaces. Sterling DVE objects are uncommon. Engraved "LARRY" on underside of handle. 4-1/8" L and 1" W.
Dirk Van Erp low bowl, copper, small, with brass ring foot. Lovely shape and proportions. Hammered surfaces. May have been cleaned long ago, but patina is coming back. Some verdigris and discoloration inside. Still, a favorite piece of ours. 6-3/8" W and 1-1/2" H.
Copper jardiniere, with bulbous tapered body that necks in near the top then flares out again. Rough handmade surface. Slightly concave bottom on small self-foot. Nice patina with some verdigris. We purchased this because it was almost the same form as a valuable Falick Novick copper jardinière of ours from the Ada Huncke collection. A very rustic and strong piece with a few dents and scrapes. Unmarked.
William L. De Matteo cuff bracelet, slightly concave, with open back, engraved GMN mono on front. William L. De Matteo apprenticed with his father, William G. De Matteo, a well known New York silversmith. William L. became Master Silversmith at Colonial Williamsburg, then left to form Hand & Hammer with Philip Thorp. His work is highly respected.
Nut dish, square, copper, with abstract linear pattern in gold- and green-colored enamel on top, blue enamel on the underside. Slightly concave edges. 3-1/16" W and 3-1/8" L. Signed: PEP.
Nut cups, pair (2), sterling, enameled in rich glowing blue shades, with round spreading sides and small ring feet. Hammered surfaces. Nicely enameled heavy objects with somewhat rough surface on the silver underside. 2-5/16" W and 13/16" H. Marked M/W or M/M / STERLING (on one). Could this mark be early Mildred Watkins?
Some of the most amazing Tiffany repoussé work we've seen. Plate, heavy, with beautiful, elaborate repoussé figures depicting four tableaus on nursery rhyme court life, engraved "Irving Cohen / From Uncle Abe and Aunt Emma, / November 5th 1905" 6-7/8" W and 1/2" H. Lucky Irving. Truly wonderful.
