| Rare Kensington Art Ware large silver pin with circular Ruskin cabochon. Central pottery plaques or "enamels" like this were originally created by The Ruskin Pottery, named for Arts & Crafts pioneer John Ruskin, as substitutes for precious and semi-precious stones. The colors and glazes quickly became popular, and several English companies including Liberty, Moorcroft, Minton, and Kensington produced jewelry incorporating them. Kensington Art Ware pieces are among the scarcest and hardest to find. The Ruskin stone in this pin is a lovely mottled blue. While the frame is unmarked, it was sold to us by an expert dealer in such pieces who verified it as silver. Much Ruskin jewelry was made of pewter; silver pieces are finer and more desirable. 1-5/8" round. | ||
