| Fabulous Chicago Arts & Crafts Handwrought Coffee Set. One of the most desirable Arts & Crafts forms is the coffee or tea set. Chicago craftsmen in the early part of the 20th century produced extraordinary silver items and this is one of the best we've ever seen. It has all the classic elements -- elegant, sensuous forms, wonderful hammering, fine flat-top hollow handles, carved ivory finials and insulators, beautiful applied monograms, and unbeatable craftsmanship. And it's large but in fine proportion. This was probably made by a top-quality craftsman such as Heinrich Eicher or Falick Novick, and the existing mark is similar to those used by these legendary craftsmen. But while the set is marked HANDWROUGHT and STERLING and CHICAGO no explicit maker's name is present. This was sometimes specified by the buyer, or occurred when craftsmen made items for friends or third parties. The lack of the name does not detract from this truly rare and striking set.
