Rare! MING DYNASTY DOUCAI CUP, TIANQI, c.1562-87
An exceptional quality Ming dynasty doucai porcelain cup, Tianqi Signature and period, c.1562-87.

The cup is finely potted and well balanced. The splendid decoration depicts 3 young boys playing with a kite.

Doucai translates to 'fighting colors'. We can also refer it to 'contrasting colors'. Inside the cup is an cobalt blue underglaze ring and sprig. In the underglaze cobalt blue within the glazed inner foot, (only the foot rim is unglazed), written signature Dai Tianqi Nian Zhi, meaning Great Tianqi (Emperor) Year Made.

Dimensions: approx. 3-1/4" diameter, 1-7/8" tall
Condition Consensus: Exceptionally Fine. No injury or repair. Museum quality.
