This beautiful chawan (tea bowl) was made in the shino style, a more than four hundred year old tradition from the central part of Japan; the ancient Mino province. The bowl is very well made and in perfect condition. It was probably made about 30 to 40 years ago. It is signed but the potter’s signature is not recognized.

This splendid aka raku-yaki chawan (red raku tea bowl) was made in the Waraku kiln, located in Kyoto since the latter part of the Edo period (1603-1868). The current bearer of the Waraku name is Kawasaki Kizou, a seventh generation potter, born in 1936, though this particular bowl was probably made by his predecessor.
